Message from County Chair Adrienne Cadik
Fellow Democrats - I hope your summer is off to a great start. Much has been happening in the Montgomery County Democratic Party.
The Texas Democratic Party's State Convention was held in Corpus Christi on June 25 & 26. It was an exciting and interesting event, and it's always fun to be surrounded by fellow Democrats. We had good turnout from Montgomery County, though several elected delegates were unable to attend. Our excellent Democratic candidates gave rousing speeches. Boyd Richie won a contested re-election as Chair of the TDP. The issue of whether to maintain the Texas "Two-Step" (our process of selecting presidential candidates by a combination of both primary elections and precinct caucuses) was addressed. The vigorous debate, caucuses and roll call vote, which upheld the current system, was a great demonstration of democracy in action. And four delegates from Montgomery County were elected by their Senate District caucuses to serve on convention committees. Overall, it was a memorable and successful convention.
Montgomery County Democratic Party, in conjunction with the Lone Star Democratic Club, again sponsored a float in The Woodlands Fourth of July parade. The float was beautifully decorate at a lively party on the previous night, and about 25 enthusiasts accompanied the float in the parade. With an additional float sponsored by the Bill White for Texas campaign, Democrats were very well represented at this event.
Preparations for this election season are in full swing. The Party headquarters will be the focal point for phone-banking, mailouts, volunteer training, and block-walking. The key to a successful future for MCDP lies in the Democratic turnout in November. Let's find all those Democrats who were so energized in 2008, and convince them that they should stay involved in the election process into 2010 and beyond. Let's find those Independents and moderate Republicans who know that we need a new administration in Austin and across Texas.
