Message from the County Chair
Marc Meyer

My message is brief. I am not going to talk about Trump, the inauguration or anything else in the past. I am committed to the proposition that our future will be secured when we have pulled the Republicans back from the abyss that they now want to hold us over and are competitive up and down the ballot. That starts with getting good Democrats on the Ballot for EVERY RACE AVAILABLE! Let’s start by examining the races for the Magnolia and Montgomery School Boards.

Montgomery ISD: There are three places up for election this year – Places #1-3. Place #1 is held by Mary Miller, who appears to be a dyed-in-the-wool Republican based on available information. The incumbent in Place #2 is Kurt Stanberry, and is possibly the most Democratic friendly member of the MISD Board based on available information. Finally, Place #3 is held by David Eargle, currently the VP of the Board. Available information indicates he is in between the other two incumbents in terms of friendliness to our ideas, but still he appears to be fairly standard Republican. Filing information for the election is available here.

Magnolia ISD: There are also three places up for election – Places #2, 4 & 5. Place #2 is currently held by Sonja Ebel, Place #4 is held by Kristi Baker and Place #5 is held by Joe Duncan. Based on available information, all appear to be fairly conservative Republicans. Place #4’s Kristi Baker was challenged 3 years ago by a stronger Tea Party Conservative and was able to survive, but situations like that may offer an opening to a Progressive and/or Democrat in these races. Filing information for the election is available here.

The filing deadline is February 17th. My next column will examine the municipal races in Montgomery County in Panorama and Cut and Shoot.
