Annie Jefferson Burnett

RIP

This has been a difficult year for the Montgomery County Democratic Party for many reasons, but again it is with great sorrow that I must report the passing early the morning of July 10th, of Annie Jefferson Burnett, current Democratic Party chair of Precinct 10 and headquarters volunteer, founder of the Montgomery County chapter of the Coalition of Black Democrats, long-time Democratic activist, and active member of the Montgomery County chapter of the NAACP chapter 6304.

Everyone who met Annie was in awe of her leadership and wisdom. As Montgomery County NAACP President Carl White told me this morning, “Annie was a great friend, person, and community leader”. Others have noted how she was a force, and would openly speak her mind, and I can tell you that if she spoke, you needed to pay attention to what she said. But she also had an affection for younger Democrats as well and was a mentor to many of us.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Annie’s family and friends. At this time, plans for an outdoor Celebration of Annie’s life are still being made.

Marc M. Meyer, Montgomery County Democratic Party Chair
