Mike Midler and Archie Bell – Feb. 2020

The Reverend Michael Hayles, founder of the “Coat of Many Colors”, a non-profit organization in Montgomery, Texas, and Mr. Carl White, President of the local chapter of the NAACP, were the first speakers at our Final Friday celebration of Black History Month.

They were joined at the podium by two additional Montgomery County community leaders. Ms. Mary L. Talbert, recounted her experiences as the first female Black Constable in Montgomery County and then Bishop Ronald Grimes spoke about his experiences growing up in the Tamina Community.

Their presentation were interlaced with musical presentations by the popular local Tamina singing group, “The Gospel Engineers” and the Conroe Community Choir (who were part of the opening celebration.) One of the founders of the group, Johnny Jones says, “We like to sing and bring joy and spirit to people who sometimes might be low. Some people have lost jobs and homes and things, we try to give them a boost in life by singing gospel,”

The evening started at 6:30pm with a social and light refreshments. The speakers and music began at 7 p.m.

So many folks got to enjoy the educational and inspiring speeches as we closed another wonderful Celebration of Black History Month in Montgomery County TX!
